Description
INCREDIBLY NICE CONDITION COPPER COIN FROM SPANISH EMPIRE DATING FROM 1600's found by members of our staff years ago in Puerto Rico. These coins were left in circulation for many years, thus are mostly found in low grades, but not this coin. These coins were hand hammered, on whichever copper blanks they had on hand, so coins were of various thickness, featured clipped planchets, off center strikes, heavy or slight strikes, splits and cracks and many other defects. Each coin is different. This coin received a heavy strike helping it retain a lot of detail even after many years in circulation and several hundred years buried in the soil. EXCELLENT COIN featuring the castle and lion motif very popular design on coins of this time period, as well as two restrikes. Normally these coins are rather small, but this is a large size and denomination coin. slightly smaller than US half dollar. Left as found, original condition as when it came out of the ground, no cleaning was done. Coin # 250
